The week before Christmas

The week before Christmas
and what did we do

We shoveled more snow

and met Santa too

We bundled all up to see lots of lights

and continued to show mama we are not scared of heights

We smiled really pretty
for a couple of pictures

But that quickly changed to crying and silly giggles

We were happy playing at the fountain
both tossing pennies

Spen making wishes
Campbell screaming "FISHeS"

It's Begining to Look a lot like Christmas

It has actually looked like Christmas for a while around here. The boys love all the decorations a little more than I wish they did!!

Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas tree
How lovely are your branches.

Both boys like to rearrange the ornaments. Campbell also likes to add special touches to the tree like toys and sippie cups. But his most favorite task is digging for all the Christmas balls and pulling them off, you know because IT'S A BALL!

We Wish YOU a Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving 2009
Denver, CO

We had a great Thanksgiving with the Seybs. Everyone came to celebrate the holiday here in Denver. It sure is nice to have family around. More hands more ears more help! I'm very jealous of you Mommy's who have grandparents so close!

We were so glad Aunt Katie got to come! Katie and I ventured out on Black Friday and had a fun time. We didn't leave at 3am or anything. But, there were still good sales at 8!! We had fun chatting and catching up as we waited in line. I'm pretty sure the other ladies waiting in line enjoyed our chatter too! They got an ear full. The boys loved having Katie (or Kaykey as Campbell calls her) here as you can see from the pictures.

Campbell climbed up in Katie's lap and fell asleep!!! So not like that boy!

Here Spen is chatting it up and using his hands while he's telling his story.

Spencer picked out the Children's dictionary for Oma to read!! Oma didn't mind and they read and read!!

These boys do love their Opa. I don't know what it is about a man, but my kids love to act as if men are their personal climbing walls. Opa never once complained about being constantly trampled on by little ones. He got lots of love amidst the climbing so I think that helps! Spencer had a plan for all the things Opa was going to play. Spen loves to keep Opa very busy.
Oh and when we were deciding who would sleep in Spencer's room with him we mentioned Opa and Spen says, "I think NOT! Opa is very loud!"

We managed to get a family shot after only 4 tries! And look at Spencer's face!! He was ready for that flashing light.

Spencer and Campbell making milk soup. What is milk soup? I haven't got a clue. But playing in the sink making milk soup entertained them for quite a while.

We also celebrated Katie's bithday. Spencer was so happy to sing to her. On her b-day Jake, Katie and I got to go out to eat and see a movie!! Thanks to Oma and Opa for keeping the boys. I hadn't seen a movie in the theater since Spen was 11 months old!

We had a very happy easy going Thanksgiving. This year I am most thankful for health. Especially my children's! Thank you Lord for my happy healthy children.

Wordy Wednesday

Spencer: "When we die and go to heaven will we still be able to wiggle our booties?"

Campbell: "I stuuuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yes Campbell, that's the point of a high chair.

This child is a very messy eater. Can't you tell?

Wordy Wednesday

Spencer: "Wow! Campbell's eating a STORM up."

I served creamed corn the other night. Neither child enjoyed it.
Spencer: "I like corn on the cob but I don't like this corn soup."

We knew it!

We knew that one day the wine/beer cubbie would be used as a jail. And boy does their "jail" game entertain them for a nice long while.

"Campbell you stay in jail for 5 minutes for not wearing your seat belt!"

If only the door didn't have that huge gap at the bottom!

Wordy Wednesday

Yesterday as I picked Spen up from Preschool his teacher met me at the door telling me that Spencer cracks her up. Today he told them....

SPENCER: "We say Y'ALL at our house!"

Supposedly one of the teachers used YOU GUYS and he set them straight.

Thata boy!!! Be proud of your southern roots and your very southern accent!!! I hope no matter where we live you always say Y'all and have your sweet southern sound.

Wordy Wednesday

Oh Spencer
"I am so strong. These arms are as strong as steel."

"Look at my belly! I ate so much my belly may pop off."

"I can't wait till I have more hair on my arms. Then I'll be able to drive Daddy's truck."

"I can wash my under arm pits. Now I'm gonna wash my leg pits."
(aka the area behind your knee)

"Is my peepee gonna get loose and fall off too? You know like my teeth will."

OH SPENCER!

Wordy Wednesday

My Spencer is a drink maniac. He loves a beverage. The other day after nap Spencer was requesting like his 4th glass of warm milk. If he had anymore I knew he wouldn't eat later. I said NO about 10 times and started to go make dinner.
Spencer: for the billionth time "Mama can I have some warm milk now?"
Me: I'm cooking right now.
Spencer: "Wellllllll the microwave is right by the stove?"
Me: I know you didn't!
And NO he didn't get that milk till dinner.

Spencer grazed my head as he threw a shoe into the shoe basket.

Spencer: "I really wanted to toss that in but that toss just turned into a throw."

Campbell is quite the chatty man these days.

His current favorite phrase..... "I'mBigGuy"

He does indeed think he is such a big guy and hangs right in there with them. He has no clue he's still a little bit to me.

Goodbye October...

...don't let the door hit you in the hiney!
What a month! I feel like I need a do over for October. Well, until I told my grandmother that and she said "so you can have 13 months in this year!" To that I say never mind we'll try for a better October next year!

The crazy month for us started on the 7th with Campbell visiting the ER. He managed to Houdini himself out of the cart at Wal-Mart, plummeted from the cart to the pavement and landed directly on his precious head. I was opening the car door so I could load the boys in...horrible mistake not to pick him up first. I saw what was about to happen but couldn't get to him before he hit. I think I screamed louder than I ever have in my life. I was terrified of what I was going to see when I picked him up. Usually there are people everywhere but of course not today when I desperately needed help. I started yelling for HELP and a sweet concerned lady ran over. She was so nice. She loaded my car with my things and loaded Spencer in his seat while I checked Campbell's eyes, head, bleeding and got him in his car seat. I heard her as she was getting Spen in the car say "come on grandma you can do this." I thought that was cute. Those car seat buckles are tough to do.
Once we were in the car I turned on my flashers and raced to the ER. Spencer was such a helper. I told him to help me keep Campbell awake and he did great talking and singing to him. Oh did I mention it was lunch time? We were all hungry and a muddy mess from our nature walk that morning! The people at Parker Adventist Hospital were wonderful. I told them what happened with tears in my eyes and they rushed us back to a room. Within seconds there were 15 people in our room checking over him. I could tell they don't take head injuries lightly. I was thankful for that. Head injuries scare the bageebies out of me.

Poor Campbell was put in a neck brace and HATED it. He wouldn't stop trying to get it off. In fact that's the only thing he managed to NOT tear off his body. He ripped the pulse monitor off his toe, blood pressure band off his arm and the oxygen off his nose more than once. Poor thing also had to endure two failed attempts at an IV and then a shot due to the IV not working. They had to give him a drug to try and calm him down. One nurse said "He doesn't give up does he?" Oh no nurse, not my child!!! He was waiting for them to give up!

The huge funny of the day was when the nurse commented on Spencer saying, "Your oldest is just so mellow." Hearing this made me do a double take and then realizing she was talking about my child, my Spencer, I died laughing! I assured her that mellow is never a word I would use to describe my oldest. Words such as drama king, high maintenance and inquisitive were more suiting. But, he is a smart cookie and knew the situation was serious, which meant he knew he better chill. I think he was enjoying watching all the goings on. He was very good. I never once had to tell him to behave. A nurse gave him a coloring book. He colored, chatted with her and watched the commotion. Now if this had happened to him I'd be cuddling him and rubbing that boo boo weeks later. He knows how to milk it for all it's worth.

Thankfully Jake got to the hospital before they took us back for a CT scan. They wrapped Campbell in a straight jacket for the scan or as they say swaddler...yeah right!! While we waited on the results one of the nurses brought the boys some grape juice. For the first time in 2 hours Campbell stopped crying, took a sip (never had juice before), looked up at me, smiled and said "jabber jabber jabber I like it jabber." I'm thinking the unintelligible part was likely something about why in the hell we hadn't given him that stuff before.

Praise the Lord above Campbell was and is just fine! It's amazing how in one split second your life can change forever. We all know that, but man was it so real for me that day.
I am still so thankful!!

My poor baby home from the hospital. We didn't realize he still had these on his skinny self till bath time!

The month continued with Jake getting a stomach bug that following Saturday. I was so bummed because it was suppose to be "my" day. But instead Jake was pathetically sick and the boys and I tried to stay far away. I knew that we were likely to be getting the guck.
During the night it hit me and unfortunately it stuck around a few days for me. Jake however was able to eat greasy pizza by the next day. He's got a stomach of steel.

After a long weekend of having to stay inside I was so ready to get out. We were excited and amazed the boys never got the stomach yuck. The weekend was coming and I was hoping to make up for the last weekend spent in doors. It was going to be a beautiful weekend with 70-80 degree weather. A great day for the pumpkin patch! I was so happy we wouldn't have to bundle up while picking our pumpkins. But oh no...no. such. luck. One second Campbell was fine the next second he wasn't. I'm not kidding either. It was just like someone snapped and he sounded horrible. Like a goose honking to be exact. He continued to cough and run a fever the rest of the weekend. Monday morning it was confirmed that he had croup! He was better by Thursday, thankfully! We were so tired of being in the house. The darn cough got much better after his steroid but the doc warned us he could have a wet cough for up to three weeks!!!! I. hate. croup.

Spencer giving love to the croupy Campbell

As much as mid October was a bummer for us we were blessed to have healthy kids for Halloween. I know many who didn't get to go trick or treating this year because of sickness.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can stay germ free the remainder of the winter.
At least flu free!!!!!

Trick or Treat

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

We had a fun Halloween week. Wednesday we ventured out in the pouring snow to our annual MOMS club Halloween party. The crowd was smaller this year because of the messy roads, but we had a fun festive snowy time.

{party pic to be added}

On Friday night the four of us were invited to a costume party. It was fun getting dressed up with the kids. I hated that I didn't have my mom's attic to dig through for costumes! But, we came up with what I called our "closet costumes". We put a few things together from our closet and taaa daaa a witch and Handy Manny appeared!

I hate you can't see the spiders on my dress.

Handy Manny

and his tools.

We waited till Saturday morning to carve pumpkins. Since they had been covered in snow I wasn't sure they were going to be the greatest. And well, they weren't! One was so hard we had a very hard time getting a knife through it. Sadly I forgot to get a pic of the finished product. We stole an idea from a friend of mine and tried using Jake's drill on one of the pumpkins. We really liked it. It was to small of a pumpkin for a face so we put polka dots all over it. So cute.
Our littlest helper.
Daddy did most of the work.

Spencer didn't care for the sliminess of the pumpkin insides so he got busy on an art project.

I had fun with the the boys costumes this year. That's mainly the reason mine and Jake's were so low key. I was too busy with the boys attire and costume props. I promised myself last year that I wouldn't buy a pre-made costume this year. I loved when I was little and we'd come up with the outfit ourselves. I had so much fun putting it all together. And talk about cheap!
Felt + cardboard + paint = no more than 6 dollars!!

The cutest UPS and FedEX men you'll ever see!!
I think it all turned out great if I do say so myself. Unique at least.

The Smiths came over early Halloween evening for dinner, cookie decorating and trick or treating. Thankfully the 23+ inches of snow we got on Wed and Thur didn't stop the trick or treating. In fact the weather was great and most of the sidewalks were clear. The kids on our culdesac + a few others in our neighborhood all go trick or treating together. I wish the picture of the herd of kids going door to door had turned out. It was a hoot to see. Spencer had fun and is much more into the idea of candy this year. However, he didn't care for the scary costumes some of the kids had on. I can't blame him. I'm a little freaked by them too. Campbell wanted to go in each house when he got to the door and then wanted to hurl rocks in peoples driveway. I should have dressed him as a vandal!

They came home with a load of candy. I'm doing really well getting rid of it myself. yummm yummm. And unfortunately Campbell has a new found love for dumm dumms and smarties.

Here the kids are cookie decorating and eating. You can add sprinkles to Campbell's list of yummies too. I looked over and instead of eating his cookie he was helping himself to spoonfuls of sprinkles. And yes he was double dippin like crazy in the community sprinkle bowl. Yuck!

Let the trick or treating begin!
Mason, Spencer, Campbell and Riley. One dragon, two delivery men and a ghost!

Reaping the rewards of trick or treating. He chose a chocolate bar and nerds.
wooooooooo went the wind and out went the lights
and 2 little pumpkins went to bed very late on Halloween night
